MY JOURNEY THROUGH ATHLETICS

Growing up, I have been privileged to have numerous opportunities to hone my athletic ability. Overcoming a fear of the water, I started swim lessons when I was 6 years old and developed a quick aptitude for the water. I joined a club swim team when I was 8 years old and worked tirelessly to make up for being half the size of all my competitors. I swam competitively all through college, setting school records and achieving NCAA cuts.

After my college retirement, I was at a loss on how to maintain my fitness. I started to take up running, despite a foot injury that had hindered my ability to run the past couple years and an intense dislike for running. This snowballed into running my first half-marathon in November 2015. When I started graduate school, I joined a new running community, the Hopkins Marathon Team, where I ran my first full marathon in March 2017 and subsequently completed three full marathons and another half-marathon. I hope to continue to run and compete in triathlons in the future. Athletics have taught me the importance of setting goals, hard work, overcoming failure, teamwork and support, taking care of myself, and time-management. I work out and live an active lifestyle because it makes me happy but it might not be for everyone. I believe in using fitness as a tool for self-care and shattering standards of what "fit" or "strong" looks like. I'm always looking for new fitness buddies or willing to bounce off ideas for workouts - feel free to get in touch!
